What Is CoolSculpting®?

CoolSculpting® is not a weight loss treatment. It is a nonsurgical, noninvasive procedure that permanently eliminates fat cells in the body. In fact, CoolSculpting® is FDA-approved to treat nine different areas: under the chin, thighs, abdomen and flanks, upper arms, underneath the buttocks and even bra and back fat. Because of its noninvasive nature, this treatment also causes no damage to the skin and requires virtually no downtime! The Technology

When you gain or lose weight, what’s actually happening inside your body? It was previously understood that as our weight fluctuates, it is the number of fat cells in our body increasing and decreasing. But research has shown that the number of fat cells we have in our adult lives doesn’t ever change. Rather, the size of each fat cell in our body grows and shrinks, which changes our weight and physical appearance.

CoolSculpting® Elite freezes undesirable pockets of fat, causing the cells to collapse and eventually die. From there, the body eliminates them as biowaste. With this technology, which is referred to as cryolipolysis, the CoolSculpting® technician can specifically target certain cells while leaving the surrounding ones completely intact.

What You Should Know: Pre- & Post-Op

However, it’s important to remember that CoolSculpting® Elite is not a weight-loss treatment, so candidates should be generally healthy and hoping to identify specific fat bulges in the body. Continuing healthy habits after the treatment is essential for seeing and maintaining the permanent fat loss results. Just like with liposuction, any fat cells that are left behind after treatment completion can still grow in size if patients gain weight. Also, because the applicator’s strong suction capabilities can leave some bruising in certain patients, we ask that they avoid anti-inflammatories as much as possible before the treatment session.

Many CoolSculpting® patients come back for multiple treatments. While some only need one, most patients need 2-3 treatment sessions on average. This will really depend on the areas being treated and the desired results. Most of the CoolSculpting® Elite treatment sessions will last between 35 minutes and an hour. We have a TV equipped with movie and show streaming for all our patients to utilize while they chill. But other people love to bring their work, a book or even to get in a midday power nap!

Following treatment, patients are usually able to resume normal activities right away. A few side effects may present themselves, like bruising, redness or aching. But the (very) temporary discomfort is worth it when people are able to see their results in as little as three weeks! Typically, patients see their most dramatic results at the two-month post-op. mark and can continue to see changes for up to six months after treatment.
