Get A Leg Up On Your Laser Hair Removal
“I love shaving!” Said no one ever. If you’re like the rest of us, you probably don’t enjoy waxing, tweezing or plucking your body hair very much, either. If that’s the case, you won’t be excited to hear that the average woman spends over two months of her life dealing with a razor, wax strips or something in between. And we don’t even want to tell you what that number is for our men (Hint: It’s about 2.5 times that!). If only there were a way to stay hairless and smooth without ever having to shave again.
Oh, did the title of this post give it away? Because yeah, there is one. It’s called laser hair removal.
What Is Laser Hair Removal?
With laser hair removal, a laser projects a light — converted into heat energy — to inhibit hair growth at the follicular level. The heat from the laser is absorbed by the melanin in the patient’s hair and damages those hair follicles, which is what prevents them from regrowing. The technology we use at our practice is called the Cynosure Elite+. It has two laser wavelengths proven to effectively and safely remove hair on all skin types. These varying wavelengths are what allow us to operate on a wide range of skin tones. In fact, the Cynosure Elite+ laser is regarded as one of the best in the business — so of course we had to have it!
What Are The Benefits?
There are more benefits to laser hair removal than simply never having to shop for razors again (or nick yourself with one, for that matter). To start, the laser can be used on a multitude of areas. Some honorable mentions include the face, underarms, legs, back, neck and even Brazilian area among others! Using a laser also ensures precision in your hair removal. The technology we use is able to meticulously target hairs without damaging the surrounding skin. This technique is also super quick. Every pulse of light from the laser is only a fraction of a second. Treatment sessions themselves can take anywhere from a couple hours all the way down to just a few minutes. But the best part? After an average of three to seven sessions, patients can expect to see permanent hair loss.
Preparing For Your Appointment
At your appointment, you and your technician will wear special goggles to protect the eyes. If needed, she will shave the treatment area to prepare it for the procedure. Then, she’ll adjust the laser based on your skin type, hair thickness and the area being treated.
Something Important To Remember: Now’s The Time
As we approach the winter months, we are also approaching the best time to undergo an aesthetic treatment like laser hair removal! It’s important to note that exposure to the sun can increase the likelihood of complications after treatment and make the procedure less effective. Before and after treatment, patients are advised to avoid exposing that area to the sun as much as possible for six weeks. During the summer months, when many people start thinking about laser hair removal, is actually the worst time to start undergoing your treatment sessions — and you’re going to need a few to ensure permanent hair loss. But in the winter, our bodies are much more protected by warm, long clothing and are therefore much easier to keep out of the sun.
